Studying Abroad in India will truly be an experience of a lifetime. This 21 day course will offer a meaningful combination of lectures, field trips, documentary production work and sightseeing. Students will learn about Indian history, religions, cultures and cinemas, with excursions to major cultural, religious and historical sights.
BC Study Abroad India will offer students a broad range of India’s exotic environments including Chennai, Madurai, Dindigul, Ambathurai and Bangalore. Students will experience the diversity of both urban and rural India, as well as north and south Indian cultures. Students will travel to Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Lectures on Indian history, cultures and religions will be given by prominent Indian scholars.
Tamil Nadu and the Prasad Academy will provide the setting for studying documentary production within a South Indian context. Through a series of classroom lectures and screenings students will receive a comprehensive introduction to South Indian cinema, with an emphasis on documentary. CUNY students will work collaboratively with Prasad Academy Film students on the preproduction, production and post production of short documentary projects. CUNY students will travel by train to the Dindigul District and will have an opportunity to visit rural India. At the Gandhigram Rural Institute students will learn about street theater and the use of traditional creative formats as a way of providing village audiences’ with information about health, environmental issues, and education.
Study Abroad India: Documentary Production and Cultural Studies will be offered annually during the January intercession. CUNY students can earn 3 credits for the 21 day course. Course costs: $3,300. Not including tuition. For further information please contact:
